Brooks Conrad Called Up To The Bigs

OAKLAND, Calif. – The Oakland A’s today selected infielder Brooks Conrad from Triple-A Sacramento and designated infielder Donnie Murphy for assignment.
Conrad was batting .242 with 21 home runs and 67 RBI in 93 games for Sacramento. He was leading the River Cats in hits (88), home runs (21) and RBI (67) and was tied for the lead in doubles (21). The 28-year old switch-hitter had appeared in 38 games at second base, 13 at third base, 18 at shortstop, 15 in the outfield and nine as designated hitter. Conrad hit .455 (15 for 33) with four home runs and 11 RBI over his final eight games with the River Cats. His average included a .267 mark against right-handed pitchers, .176 against left-handers and .242 with runners in scoring position. Conrad, originally an eighth round draft pick of the Houston Astros in 2001 out of Arizona State University, elected free agency on October 29, 2007 and was signed by the A’s organization to a minor league contract on December 8, 2007. He will be making his Major League debut after batting .261 with 135 home runs and 587 RBI in 969 games in eight minor league seasons.
