Reed Johnson’s grand slam home run off of reliever Leo Rosales highlighted a 6-run 8th inning, and helped the Chicago Cubs salvage the final game of a 3-game series, 10-6 over the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Owings entered the game in the 8th in relief of starter Doug Davis, with the Diamondbacks trailing 4-3. Owings walked the leadoff hitter Ryan Theriot, who was later knocked in on a base hit by catcher Geovanny Soto to make it 5-3 Chicago. Owings later walked Mark DeRosa, forcing in a run. Rosales then came in, and was victimized by Johnson, the first batter he faced, to make it 10-3. The Diamondbacks got closer in the bottom of the inning on a 3-run blast by Chris Snyder.
Ted Lilly got the win for Chicago, pushing his record to 10-5, while Davis fell to 3-5 with the loss.

The Diamondbacks end their homestand at 3-3, and failed to pick up a game on the second place Dodgers, who lost in Colorado earlier in the day. The D-Backs haven’t won 3 games in a row since May 13-15, when they swept a 3-game series from the Rockies at Chase Field….Cubs outfielder Alfonso Soriano returned to the lineup after missing 34 games with a hand injury. He went 1 for 5 with an rbi.
The Diamondbacks have Thursday off, and then begin a 10-game road trip which begins in San Francisco on Friday. The trip will also take them to San Diego and Los Angeles.
