The Arizona Diamondbacks won’t get Mark Teixeira as he was sent to the Angels for first baseman Casey Kotchman and minor league reliever Stephen Marek. The roster will however look different tonight when the D-Backs take the field.
Micah Owings was optioned to Tucson after giving up 8 runs last night in San Diego.
Both moves seem to be the right thing for the Diamondbacks organization.
The price tag for Teixeira for 3 months was too steep for the snakes to pay. Reports have suggested it would have cost the D-Backs either Conor Jackson or Max Scherzer. Both have the chance to be key parts to the Diamondbacks lineup now and in the near future. The risk of losing them was much higher than the reward of gaining Teixeira.
Sending Owings to the minors also makes complete sense because it will force him to regain control of his fastball without costing the big league team in the standings.
Jailen Peguero was re-called from Triple-A Tucson to fill Owings roster spot.
