With the non-waiver trade deadline coming on Thursday, rumors are flying that Atlanta Braves first baseman Mark Teixiera will end up with the D’Backs. The D’Backs players mentioned as most likely to be traded are Conor Jackson or Chad Tracy, plus a prospect.
Although the Braves are said to covet CoJack, it makes more sense for both teams for the Braves to take Tracy. Third baseman Chipper Jones has just gone on the 15-day DL with a sore hammy. Teixiera is a first baseman. Tracy can play both first and third, giving the Braves more flexibility.
CoJack is very hot right now, just coming off his second NL Player of the Week award in 2008. The D’Backs would be crazy to trade him, especially for a player who might be a 2-month rental. Tex is a free agent at the end of the year and other teams with more money, such as the Yankees and the Angels, are interested in him.
