Dan Haren wasn’t the unhittable pitcher we’ve seen over the last 6 weeks or so, but he was good enough to pitch the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 7-3 win over the San Diego Padres at Petco Park.
Haren was greeted rather rudely actually, as San Diego center fielder Jody Gerut led off the game with a home run to give the Padres a 1-0 lead. It was the first home run Haren has surrendered since June 12th, a span of 7 straight starts. After allowing another run in the 1st, Haren settled down, and yielded 3 runs and 6 hits over 7 innings. The win was his 11th of the season, and 6th in his last 7 decisions.
Trailing 3-1, the Diamondbacks struck for 4 runs in the 5th inning off of San Diego starter Cha Seung Baek. Chad Tracy’s 2-run single highlighted the inning for Arizona. Mark Reynolds and Chris Snyder hit back-to-back solo home runs to cap the scoring in the 8th.
With one stop left on their 10-game road trip, the Diamondbacks are 5-1. The Dodgers remain on their heels in the National League West standings, trailing by just 1 game after L.A. took down San Francisc 4-0 on Wednesday.
Here’s what others are saying about the Diamondbacks victory in San Diego on Wednesday…
And now it’s on to Los Angeles for the Diamondbacks for a big 4-game series with the Dodgers.
