Former Sun Devil Burgess signed by Jets

A day after former ASU tight end Brent Miller inked a free-agent deal with the Cardinals, another former Devil is on an NFL rosters. Rudy Burgess, who was a jack-of-all-trades during his Sun Devil career, signed a deal with the New York Jets. In true Burgess fashion, the transaction wire lists him as a wide receiver while the Jets official website has him down as a defensive back. Burgess played receiver, corner, running back and returned kicks and punts in his days in Tempe.

Obviously, when an undrafted free agent is signed during training camp, he’s usually slapped with the label of “camp body”. But hey, its an opportunity to get some reps in a pro camp, and maybe open someone’s eyes, either with the Jets, or elsewhere in the league.

With Miller and Burgess in camps, the total number of former Sun Devils on NFL rosters currently is 26.
