D-Backs have a chance to stack wins in August

The Diamondbacks bats may have picked the perfect time to heat up.

That’s because the opponents the Diamondbacks will face over the next four weeks don’t exactly evoke thoughts of Major League powerhouses. Their opponents have a combine record that is 50 games under .500 (364-414). Those teams are Pittsburgh, Atlanta, Colorado, Houston, San Diego, Florida and in the last weekend of August a key match up against the Dodgers.

The Dodgers and Marlins, at least as it stands now, are the only two teams that the D-backs will face that have a record above .500 and that are still in the middle of pennant races.

dbacksaugsche1.jpgIt seems that these fading teams are perfect prey for the snakes who have picked it up both on the mound and at the plate in the three weeks since the all-star break. In those three weeks they are hitting .263 with 17 home runs and 72 RBI while their pitchers are 10-6 with a 3.71 combine ERA. Compare that to the three weeks prior to the break where the Backs hit .253 with only 10 homers and 68 RBI at the plate and on the mound their pitchers combined to go 8-11 with a 3.87 ERA.

With the bats and arms heating up and a combine record of 29-21 record this season against their August opponents it could prove to be a very fruitful month.

The Diamondbacks will need it to be with the Dodgers and newly acquired Manny Ramirez right on their heels.
