Is White Chocolate the answer for Suns?

At least one prominent member of the ’ roster is urging management to go after free agent point guard Jason Williams. Shaquille O’Neal, a teammate of Williams in Miami for 2 and a half seasons, and believes that Williams is the answer for the Suns’ need at the backup point guard position (second paragraph).

Williams, who took the league by storm as a rookie with Sacramento in 1998 with his flashy passes and playground style, averaged 8.8 points and 4.6 assists in 28 minutes per game this past season for the woeful Heat. He averages 11.4 points and 6.3 assists per game for his career.

The Suns are still trying to work out an agreement that would allow second round draft pick Goran Dragic of Slovenia to get out of his European contract and play with the team this upcoming season. Obviously, that would be the ideal situation for the team, and would allow and his coaching staff to start grooming a possible successor to .

But, if that’s not possible, Williams might be the next best option on the market. He’s 32 years old, and if his workload was reduced to 12 to 15 minutes per game, he could be effective. In the event that Nash misses any time with an injury, Williams has over a decade of running offenses in the NBA.

I’ve never been a huge fan of Williams, but he does have a championship ring, and he’s a lot better of an option for the Suns than an ancient Sam Cassell anyway.
