Newly acquired Diamondbacks’ slugger Adam Dunn comes to the desert as the Major League leader in home runs with 32 (tied with the Phillies’ Ryan Howard and Carlos Quentin of the White Sox). There’s been a lot of back and forth between fans on whether or not the Diamondbacks should have added another bat to the lineup. The team was criticized by some for not pulling the trigger on the Mark Teixeira deal before he was traded to the Angels. Another faction of D-Backs’ faithful wanted the club to go after Manny Ramirez before he landed right in the National League West with the Dodgers. And some fans wanted the team to go after a lesser known bat, like Raul Ibanez of the Seattle Mariners.
Well, it turns out that the Diamondbacks put in a waiver claim on Dunn, and had to part with very little (at least so far) to get the slugger in their lineup. When Dunn suits up in the Sedona red tomorrow night in Denver against the Rockies, he’ll be just 8 home runs the rest of the season to join a very exclusive group of major leaguers. If Dunn tops 40 homers for the season, he’ll become just the 8th player in baseball history to hit 40 or more home runs in 5 consecutive seasons.
Here’s the rest of the list…
