The Skinny: Miguel Montero and Chris Young each hit grand slams and Yusmeiro Petit matched his longest career outing, going 7 innings in the Arizona Diamondbacks’ 11-5 win over the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park. Montero added a solo home run later in the game, and narrowly missed a third home run in the 6th inning, when he doubled over the head of Houston right fielder Hunter Pence. Petit allowed only 4 hits and 2 runs in his 7 innings of work to improve his season record to 2-3. Houston starter Brandon Backe was tagged for 9 hits and 11 runs in 5 2/3 innings.
Diamondbacks Player of the Game: Miguel Montero. Montero enjoyed his 2nd multi-homer game in the major leagues. The catcher had 2 solo home runs last September 5th in a 9-6 win over the San Diego Padres.
Drew watch : Stephen Drew reached base twice and scored 2 runs, but went 0 for 4 on the night, ending his hitting streak at 17 games.
Bet you didn’t know : The Diamondbacks have scored in double digits in the first two games in Houston. It is the first time they’ve scored 10 runs or more in back-to-back games since May 17-20 of 2006, when they lost to San Diego 14-10, and then beat the Atlanta Braves 10-9 and 13-0 in the first two games of a 3-game series.
Pretty good acquisition, huh? : The Diamondbacks improved to 4-1 with newly acquired slugger Adam Dunn in the lineup.
Here’s what others are saying about the Diamondbacs second straight thrashing of the Astros…
The Diamondbacks will go for a series sweep and a 5-1 road trip Sunday, as they send Randy Johnson to the mound in search of his 295th career victory. The Astros will counter with their ace Roy Oswalt. First pitch from Minute Maid is at 11:05 AM Arizona time.
