A solution for the Cardinals’ in the Boldin situation

By Vince Marotta, August 20th, 2008 11:40 AM

The Anquan Boldin situation seems to be at a standstill. Boldin continues to badmouth everyone in the Cardinals’ front office, and other employees who may have sat in on negotiation meetings. There is, however, no truth to the rumor that Boldin no longer talks to the guy who delivered sandwiches to said meeting–at least that’s what the delivery guy told profootballtalk.com.

After racking my brain, I’ve come up with the solution for the Cardinals. Bend on your stance, and trade Q. Anywhere. Send him to Atlanta for draft picks and Home Depot gift cards. Boldin would be the difference between the Falcons going winless and winning one game. In his place….Usain Bolt.

Hey, why not? If the Cardinals aren’t going to compensate their best player the way he feels he should be compensated, get rid of him. Those actions would indicate that winning might not be the Cardinals #1 priority. So why not just replace him with a guy who’s probably never played football before.

Face it, if Bolt was coming out in the draft this season, his combination of size and ridiculous speed would make him a number 1 pick anyone. Who cares if he can’t catch the football? You can teach him that, right?

Of course, this post is tongue-in-cheek, kind of. Somebody is going to take a chance on Bolt. We’ve seen it before. Carl Lewis was a 12th round draft pick of the Dallas Cowboys in 1984, and he can’t play football. Or sing! Renaldo Nehemiah played 3 seasons with the San Francisco 49ers in the early 80’s, and actually caught 43 passes and scored 4 touchdowns. Why not give Bolt a chance?

Whatever happens, is anyone else getting the feeling that this Boldin thing is going to hover over the Cardinals’ heads and be enough to derail their 2008 season?

    I agree, Vince.

I’ve read comments elsewhere where some rather unrealistic fans believe that the Cardinals should keep Boldin on the roster for the next 2 years.

That’s rather unrealistic, as I don’t think it will help to have a guy getting $4M/year to nurse chronic “sore hamstrings”, badmouth the owners and coaches, and make himself into a general distraction.

The Cardinals will either have to pay him or trade him. I don’t see any other practical option.

And given the Bidwills’ less-than-stellar history, I’m hesitant to join in on the Anquan Boldin pile-on.

I’m sure after he’s gone, we’ll hear the rest of the story.
