It was another day on the Anquan Boldin “Trade me because you don’t respect me” tour and things just keep getting more unsettling.
Today’s tour stop was the Dan Patrick Show, and Anquan sounded as cantankerous as ever.
As Patrick asked Boldin hard-hitting question after question, Anquan kept to his scorched earth policy. He recited every negative thing that his agent Drew “Next Question!” Rosenhaus has fed him.
At one point during his interview Boldin said, “I hate to be in the media, especially this way … I hate that it’s this big of a story”.
Really? If he did, he wouldn’t continue to go on any radio show that is willing to listen to him complain.
The more I hear come out of Anquan’s mouth the more it becomes apparent, he isn’t the one behind all of this. You can almost hear Rosenhaus in his ear telling him he is being disrespected and Anquan buying into it. He points his finger at the Cardinals front office, but fails to realize three more are pointing right back at him as he does it.
This is most evident when he says his current contract was fair market value when he signed it, but in the next breath claims he signed for less to help the Cardinals.
Which is it? It was either a fair market deal, or it was a discount. It can’t be both. That’s like saying your prom date was one of the hottest at the dance but you just went with her out of pity. It doesn’t make any sense.
With each passing interview, Boldin is moving into the category of the athlete who cares about nothing more than the dollar. The entire thing is way too Jerry Maguire-esque for my liking.
The best quote of the entire interview is the one that was most hypocritical of all.
“I don’t have to go out and justify why I’m worth a new deal”
Anquan’s probably right. He doesn’t need to go out on the field to prove that he is a top wide reciever and that he is, compared to Larry Fitzgerald, underpaid. That also means he doesn’t have to go to the media to justify it either.
Everyone knows he’s deserving of a new deal. News flash, that includes the Arizona Cardinals.
They have said throughout this entire process that they have every intention of offering him a new deal that compensates him accordingly.
Too bad that message is getting muddled in an extremely bad game of telephone involving the Cardinals front office, Drew Rosenhaus and Boldin.
If Boldin really wants a resolution to the situation, he should quietly take care of it through back channels. That way it won’t be a big deal.
As Boldin said in the interview “at this point it’s not about a contract”, it’s about getting as much attention as possible. So next stop on the tour… any one that has a mic and even a passing interest in him.

I heard the radio interview & I felt Anquan presented his case well. Ultimtely, it comes down to whether or not you believe his version of events which indicated that the Cardinal front office would redo his contract after 2 pro bowl seasons (which they obviously haven’t done). He also said that he never requested a trade in the past (only recently) & that was something falsely leaked by the front office. It’s a he said, she said situation. Btw, it’s not illegal to make such verbal promises & then renege. It’s just being a crappy person/organization who doesn’t keep his word.
Honestly though, the Cardinals don’t have a particularly good track record of keeping productive players happy or of competent personnel decisions for that matter. Anquan, on the other hand, has worked hard, produced on the field, been a positive locker room presence, etc. I’m more inclined to believe Anquan’s version of events.
Hmmn..Lets see if I understand this correctly. Mr. Boldin and agent lobbied for a raise a couple of years ago and got it. Now he’s upset because HE agreed to an amount which HE now considers too low. I’d fire the agent for bad advice. Boldin had his turn in line. The Cards must address others who have shown excellence before turning back towards him. His actions are childish and devisive.
