Kidd will give away medal

jasonkiddmedal.jpgFormer Phoenix Suns point guard Jason Kidd had an interesting comment today.

He told Dan Bickley that if they win the gold medal he will be giving it away.

At first I thought, OK sounds kind of cool, is he giving it to his son, a terminally ill child, or maybe to his now ex-girlfriend as a parting gift?

No. He’ll be giving his medal to Elaine Wynn wife of Vegas casino tycoon Steve Wynn.

Seems a little off, but Kidd explains it all by telling Bickley:

“Last summer, we stayed at the Wynn (resort) for a lifetime, close to three weeks,” Kidd said. “We met at a banquet, we got to talking, and she really understands the game. I told her I’d make a deal with her, that if we won the gold medal, I’d give it to her. She thought I was kidding. But I told her I had one already, and the way they treated us at the Wynn, it was the least I could do.”

Sure, that’s normal. I always give something that I worked hard to accomplish and earn to a stranger because they took care of me. In fact I stayed at the Motel 6 last week and since they left the light on for me I told them they could have my college diploma. Don’t worry I already have one from high school.

It makes you wonder just how good the “service” was there at the Wynn. Hopefully Kidd doesn’t have a touch of the Barkleyitis, and is paying off that great service with some precious medals.

Hey, shouldn’t Joumana get half of that medal? Just a thought…

I think Jason is pretty shallow. He constantly shows his lack of of values.

“the way they treated us at the Wynn, it was the least I could do.”

So…. let me get this straight…. your parents, or even your children don’t qualify for this Gold metal giveaway???? Thats pretty sad.

At least you went the Barkley route as to the possible reason for the medal. I’d have been more inclined to say Kobe.

Great stuff! Nice to think he’s so quick to give up the medal. I love the Motel 6 analogy. I’m sure since Ms. Wynn didn’t find time to slap him in the face like Joumana, he figured that was worth giving up the medal alone.

He is completely selfless.. He is devoid of character.. Something is psychologically wriong with him. His value system is misplaced.

    I am speechless..

[...] story about Jason Kidd committing to give his gold medal away to a casino hotel owner. Why? Well, because she was such an outstanding host, that’s why. “Last summer, we stayed at the Wynn (resort) for a lifetime, close to three [...]

I am a huge Kidd fan but I must admit I am thorougly confused by this…Is he setting the stage for his retirement and/or some future business plans???

All I can say is… its his D*M medal… he can do with it what he wants…. if he wanted to melt it down and make tooth picks with it,… he can, so he chooses to give it to someone…. whats wrong with that?? the sprit of the games is U.N.I.T.Y, and “oh no.. its not going to his mom or child…” BIG F$%^&*G DEAL!!!

So are people really that horrible to him that he needs to give someone a gold medal when they are nice.

I agree that it’s his medal to do with it what he wants. Is the medal going to sit in a plaque in a private office? No. It’s going to be displaced at the Wynn! Why the heck not? Kidd and his gold medal will be enshrined at the Wynn as long as the Wynn has any memorabilia to be displayed.

I wouldn’t say he’s a saint for giving it away, but it’s pretty cool that fans can be up close to the medal J Kidd brought home from China.

Who cares what he does with it…the actual value of a gold medal is about 300 bucks. He should put it on ebay.

the last name fits him well, he’s acting like a kidd.

  13. Susan on August 29th, 2008 12:51 pm

It’s his medal and he should be able to do whatever he wants with it. Maybe he doesn’t need tangible proof of what he accomplished to display–good for him.
