The Phoenix Suns on Monday dealt second-year guard D.J. Strawberry to the Houston Rockets in exchange for rookie guard Sean Singletary.
Strawberry played in 33 games as a rookie, averaging 2.2 points per game. He did show the ability to play solid perimeter defense, but the Suns apparently weren’t happy with Strawberry’s failure to show improvement in the Las Vegas Summer League this year. Strawberry also played 5 games in the NBDL with Albuquerque last season, and averaged 31.5 points per game.
Singletary, who stands 6 feet tall and weighs 180 pounds, was drafted in the second round by Sacramento, but was traded to Houston in the Ron Artest trade. He’ll be looked upon to provide spot minutes at point guard, a position he played in college at Virginia. Singletary was an accomplished college scorer, averaging 16.9 points per game in his 4-year college career. He led the Cavaliers in scoring each of the last three seasons. Arizona fans are all too familiar with Singletary, who averaged 24.5 points in two Virginia victories over the Wildcats in 2006 and 2007.
Your Suns’ depth chart for 2008-09 now looks like this:
Center: Shaquille O’Neal | Robin Lopez
Power Forward: Amare Stoudemire | Boris Diaw | Louis Amundson
Small Forward: Grant Hill | Matt Barnes | Alando Tucker
Shooting Guard: Raja Bell | Leandro Barbosa | Alando Tucker
Point Guard: Steve Nash | Goran Dragic | Sean Singletary

Guess I should have seen this coming but they did not give the kid much of a chance. Plus, the defense will be missed. Poor boy should have figured out how to pass.
