Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal is reporting today that Blue Jays’ infielder David Eckstein is almost certain to be traded before tonight’s midnight (9:00 Arizona time) deadline, and that the Arizona Diamondbacks are likely to land his services for the remainder of the season.
Eckstein would likely be plugged in to the starting 2nd baseman position in the absence of Orlando Hudson. He has started only 5 games at second base this season, and only 20 in his career. He is hitting .273 this season, with 1 home run and 22 rbis for Toronto. He’ll never wow you with his statistics, but Eckstein does have a lot of championship experience, winning rings with the Angels in 2002 and the Cardinals in 2006, and was the MVP of that World Series.
