Thus far, Kurt Warner has played as well as I had predicted. By far, he’s the best QB on the Arizona Cardinals’ roster, and he’s one of the best in the NFL. After two games, he’s second in the league in passer rating, first in yards per attempt, and was just named NFC Offensive Player of the Week for the seventh time in his storied career.
With Warner behind center, the Cardinals’ offense is in good hands. However, a problem is brewing on the sideline that will undoubtedly cause turmoil in the locker room as the season progresses—Matt Leinart’s pouting attitude. What I saw from my seat last Sunday was disturbing.
While Warner, Boldin, and Fitz were carving up the Dolphins’ secondary, Leinart was disengaged from his teammates and coaches and in full pout mode. During timeouts and while the defense was on the field, Cardinal offensive coordinator Todd Haley, Kurt Warner, and third-string quarterback Brian St. Pierre were constantly talking and going over strategies.
However, Leinart would not get involved at all. He just kept his distance with a dour look on his face. When Warner hit Boldin for the 79-yard touchdown, and also when Fitzgerald leapt over two defenders and made that great run to Miami’s one-yard line, Leinart’s reaction to each was one of ambivalence.
With so much to be excited about, Leinart stood out as the sole Cardinal who wasn’t cheering the offense on during its pummeling of the Dolphins’ defense. In addition, a couple series before Warner came out, Leinart called a trainer over and made a major sideline production out of having his hamstrings stretched.
Somebody needs to inform the prima donna that he’s simply not good enough to warrant a personal stretcher. Just bend down yourself, and touch your toes a few times. Sheeesh. Even when he was put into the game, the sour expression on his face did not disappear.
Does Leinart actually believe that his weak arm, or his last-in-the-NFL 61.9 passer rating, or his three-interception meltdown versus the Raiders this past preseason somehow qualifies him to start over Kurt Warner? A top-10 QB in 2007 and two-time NFL MVP and Super Bowl winner who just tossed his third career perfect game (tying the NFL record) and is top-five in almost all QB categories this year?
The Arizona Cardinals’ season is trending up, but Leinart is looking increasingly like a clubhouse cancer whose presence is not conducive to team success. Unfortunately, in addition to being a “bust”, all evidence points to Matt Leinart being a loser, as well.

It could be worse. Leinart’s only pouty. At least he’s not Vince Young.
Good point, Vince!
Cheer up Matt! It could be worse you could be Carson Palmer. He of 2 fantasy points in 2 weeks.
Eric, you sound like someone who has Palmer on their fantasy team.
This could be the best thing to happen to Matt, and his future as a QB in this league.
WTF is this? This artical is pathetic.
From what I’ve seen and heard Leinart wasn’t “pouting” at all and was celebrateing with the team against the Dolphins.
Trying to make one player look bad so the other looks better is just plain bad.
Warner should be embrassed to have fans like who you don’t know how to handle the “team” concept.
Reality Check, You are typical of the Leinart-first/team-last crowd that fortunately is becoming smaller and smaller.
I had an excellent view and saw the whole thing.. Leinart was most definitely disengaged and in full pout mode. And to claim otherwise, you just reveal yourself as dishonest and probably not even present at the game.
Like too many of his “fans”… Leinart has demonstrated an inability to grasp the “team” concept. He’s looking like a clubhouse cancer.
I call Bullshit. I am not a Leinart fan at all. I am a team first fan and have been a fan of the Cardinals since they’ve been in AZ.
An execellent view? Sure you did. And I could tell from Leinarts face he is against unicorns and puppies. You see what you want to see but beyond that is your fantasy. Simpley amazing.
How about some actual proof of the game? Other than showing a pic of him last season. I am sure they showed Leinart on TV during the game after the touchdowns celebrateing with his team unless it was a very impressive looking look alike who stole his uniform and pads.
The only one in full pout mode is you and the only cancer here is people like you who make stuff up just to draw attention to yourself.
It’s obvious that some have an irrational inclination to not only ignore certain truths, but also to even go as far to keep OTHERS from hearing it as well.
I doubt “reality check” has called out “bullshit” to Darren Urban or Scott Bordow last summer while they were assuring us that Leinart looked great in camp… Bordow even prematurely claimed that the competition was over and Leinart was the winner.
But puff piece articles and front-office funded propaganda can only go so far… They can’t actually make a player play well… And when the games started, the wheels promptly fell off Leinart’s game. First versus the Kansas City Chiefs starting defense, and of course in that 3 interception meltdown versus the Oakland Raiders.
Unlike Leinart-first/team-last fans like “reality check”, I called bullshit long before those preseason meltdowns, and I’ve been vindicated.
So “reality check” can claim outrage in the name of being a team supporter, but internet claims like that are cheap… but I think it’s fairly obvious to all that he’s just one of a dwindling few who has a high personal investment in Matt Leinart.
But the growing concensus is that Leinart is nothing more than a bust on the field, and a cancer on the sideline.
Also your probly old enough to know what a TV is and there is a channel called the NFLN which pretty much dismisses your claim of Leinart “pouting” when they showed highlights of the game with him jumping up and down on Warners long throw and if you were at the game like you say you were you would of seen Matt celebrating with the team on every touchdown.
Even the Cardinals team message boards dimiss your claim of him “pouting” and I am sure there is more than one person who went to that game who commented on that. Unless they are all “Leinart first team last” people.
Check your facts and your bias. If you don’t like being called out on your foolishness.
At the game, several people sitting nearby also noticed what I was watching. When the 3rd string QB, the starter, and the offensive coordinator are collaborating and the backup QB is standing off alone and pouting, it’s pretty hard to miss.
But feel free to take the word of a couple of biased USC fans on some message board.
And just so you know, I have a record of being right 100% of the time.
maybe you should just go to arizonasportsfans.com/vb (Leinart pouting?) Thread and save yourself the embrassment.
Man up and show some proof (PHOTOS) instead of making up stories.
Yeah, I noticed Leinart pouting too, and it didn’t change when he went into the game. He looked pissed when he was on the sideline, and still looked pissed when he came into the game. Gone is the ML who I remember being animated and enthusiastic.
Man have some common sense. First off why would you go to a game just to look on the sidelines(You wouldn’t see much from your seat anyway). 2nd if Matt truely was pouting on then there would be more than 1 blog (this one) noting it and would be in actual news like azcentral or east valley tribune. 3rd People on Cardinal messages boards would be agreeing (which they are not).
dangerwillrobinson You must of missed the NFLN highlights of ML jumping up and down on Warners long throw and seeing him celebrate with each touchdown.
Stop making stuff up. It’s pathetic.
