Anaheim Ducks (Preseason 1-1-0) @ Phoenix Coyotes (Preseason 0-3-0)
VS
Finally! The boys are back to playing hockey in the desert! After a loss against the Kings and two tough losses for the Coyotes against the Flames to open the preseason, the Coyotes get to play their first home preseason game tonight! (No Winnipeg fans, the game at MTS Arena doesn’t count) The roster has now been cut down to 36 after assigning 13 players to San Antonio. This means that we should finally see the beginnings of what our pack of skaters will be heading into the regular season. As a matter of fact here are the lines we should be seeing from them tonight courtesy of the Coyotes website:
Forwards:
Shane Doan-Olli Jokinen-Peter Mueller
Daniel Carcillo-Kyle Turris-Mikkel Boedker
Jeff Hoggan-Steven Reinprecht-Brian McGrattan
Daniel Winnik-Garth Murray-Viktor Tikhonov
Defensemen:
Kurt Sauer-Derek Morris
Ed Jovanovski-David Hale
Jonas Ahnelov-Zbynek Michalek
As you can see, there aren’t too many surprises there are a few guys looking to have big games to possibly stay with the team for the regular season. Jeff Hoggan is certainly a surprise to be in the line up and not one of the ones already sent down, along with Garth Murray. On defense, Jonas Ahnelov continues to battle for his spot on the blueline possibly bumping Keith Yandle out of the lineup.
The big news out of Disneyla… I mean Anaheim, is that they have finally traded away Mattieu Schnieder to Atlanta for Ken Klee, Brad Larson and minor-leaguer Chad Painchaud. They’ve freed up another couple million dollars in the process with which they can sign Teemu Selane who has been waiting eagerly by the phone for them to call him back. The Coyotes game is sandwiched between two other games, one vs. San Jose which they lost and they host Vancouver on Sunday. That being the case no one seems to know what the roster will be for our game. Most likely we’ll see Kunitz, Getzlaf, Morrison, Beauchemin, Niedermayer, Huskins May and Macenauer. Pronger played last night so probably no chance to boo him tonight. Hiller was in net for the Quacks last night so Gigeure is a possibility, but it’s anyone’s guess at this point.
Coyotes Nation is fired up for this one! We’ve been missing our Ice Dogs and are ready to rock this one! See you at the arena!
Keep on howlin’,
Odin Mercer
