Diamondback free agent-to-be Orlando Hudson has his eyes set on his new team.
According to MLB.com’s Marty Noble,
From what I’m told, Hudson, a free agent, yearns to play for the Mets. I can’t be sure of that. I don’t know him. But what I know of him would suit the Mets’ purposes quite well.
Yearns? That’s a word usually lacking from the sports vernacular, and if it’s how Hudson really feels it all but assures he’ll be lacking from Arizona’s lineup in 2009.
Hudson, arguably the most consistent Diamondback over the last two seasons, is reportedly seeking over $10 million a year in free agency. Although the price is steep, losing Hudson to the Mets would hurt Arizona.
Not only would it weaken the Diamondbacks lineup, but it would severely weaken the clubhouse. With Hudson out of the line up during the stretch run this season, the D-backs lacked energy and enthusiasm, both hallmarks of his game.
If the rumors of the Metropolitans interest in Hudson and Eric Byrnes are true, the two could change the culture that has led to two New York collapses in as many seasons, and leave the Snakes without any personality.
