By Class of Champions on January 29th, 2008

Former University of Arizona football coach Larry Smith, the architect of "The Streak" against Arizona State, died Monday. He was 68. The Wildcat coach from 1980-86 passed away after a battle with leukemia and lymphoma, family members said. Wow. This is unexpected. I wouldn't be an Arizona fan if it weren't for Larry Smith. [...]

By Class of Champions on December 7th, 2007

“After consultation with my family, I have decided to extend my leave of absence for the remainder of the current basketball season. I do this with great reluctance, because I care greatly about the University of Arizona, the basketball program and the players on this team. But there are personal issues within my family that [...]

Guess who’s back?

By Class of Champions on November 26th, 2007

Lute Olson is Back

No, not just me. But thank you for missing me, you're too kind. I've been in a turkey-fueled mourning over the absence of the greatest sports figure Arizona has ever seen: Lute Olson. But just a day after Arizona defied all odds and took Kansas to the wire [...]

By Class of Champions on November 4th, 2007

Arizona would be one of the best college football teams in the country under Mike Stoops--if only the Wildcats could start the season in November. The Cats used timely defense and an explosive offense to hold off UCLA and win their second straight, 34-27, yesterday in Tucson. For the [...]

Just when the whole world had left Arizona for dead, Willie Tuitama showed that Wildcat football still has a pulse. The junior quarterback set a new single-game school record with 510 yards passing as Arizona rallied from 15 points down to defeat the Washington Huskies 48-41 in Seattle Saturday. Tuitama also [...]

Disgrace: Stanford 21, Arizona 20

By Class of Champions on October 21st, 2007

Wildcats who?

(david sanders / arizona daily star) TUCSON-- Arizona football came full circle under Mike Stoops last night. The program has returned just to where it was four years ago, at the end of the John Mackovic era. Playing to lose games, boneheaded lack of individual execution and a head coach who has lost his team are the [...]

Can the Cardinal upset the mighty crappy Wildcats

Another loss. At USC this time. 20-13. Can things get any worse for the Arizona Wildcat football team? Yes, it can, says the Stanford Rivals reporter Erik Williams: "A win over Arizona would sort of signify the Cardinal program passing the Wildcats', as will be the case when Stanford goes [...]

Cats lose more than another football game Saturday

By Class of Champions on October 8th, 2007

Cats top 2008 recruit Gerell Robinson, is not so sure anymore…

(Photo Courtesy GoAZCats.com) They may have lost their top recruit for next year...and possibly soon afterward their head coach. Talk about replacing Arizona head football coach Mike Stoops has grown more serious after the Wildcats once again gave up 24 first-quarter points on the way to a loss to [...]

Cats find a running back, and a rush, in crushing of Cougars

The Wildcats Tore it up Offensively…

TUCSON -- Watching Arizona revive its season by taking apart Washington State 48-20 Saturday night, I couldn't help but be reminded what incredible potential there is for Tucson to be a football town. It was a vintage night for the sport in the Old Pueblo, and it started before sundown with tailgates all [...]

Things overheard between Class of Champions and a fellow Arizona football fan

By Class of Champions on September 23rd, 2007

Terrell Turner will be a big-time receiver for Arizona the next three years.

during Arizona's 45-27 loss at Cal Saturday (Special thanks to Sam Hughes Place for some first-class food and women, and to Reydituto for use of his insightful and funny witticisms): “14-3, what did I miss, How’d they score again so quick?” “Who was saying that having [...]

By Class of Champions on September 9th, 2007

Arizona Wildcats Beat Up on NAU, but questions remain

(FRANCISCO MEDINA/Tucson Citizen) TUCSON, Sept. 8– It was far from a perfect home debut for the Arizona Wildcats, but a long-awaited offensive punch may have finally shown up. Willie Tuitama completed 23 passes for 283 yards and 5 touchdowns as Arizona downed Northern Arizona 45-24 Saturday night in front of an [...]

An introduction…and an apology for the BYU game

By Class of Champions on September 7th, 2007

The Cats got burried by BYU

(Media Credit: David Kemper) Looks like I've come on the scene just in time for Arizona football. Yep, this here's the new sheriff in Arizona Wildcat Town here at azsportshub, stoked with some serious Wildcat fever--er, at least I was until that abortion of a football season opener in Provo last Saturday. You've read [...]
